Distance: 20 km / 12 miles
Options, so distance varies approx 10-15 miles
Hornbeam- Towards St. Michael’s Hospice. Turn Left at footpath sign and down path and keep left to gate. Through gate and down through field and up to next gate. Straight on behind St. John Fisher School and in to Hookstone Woods and exit in to Showground nr. Squash Club. With golf club on RHS go through very narrow gate straight ahead and sail down hill and up the other side. At the moment to exit showground need to lift bikes over a fence as they have closed off the exit.
With Caravan Club on left bike down Railway Road past Sainsbury’s and to the lights. Dismount bikes and cross road at the lights, turn left on the footpath and first right towards the tip where you should see a bike sign to Stonefall.
Through bike gate and turn right on to bike path down behind the tip and on near the Sherwood Drive estate.
Exit on to Hookstone Chase. Turn left and with great care turn right at roundabout towards Morrison’s. There in the far top left corner is a bike path which takes you out to Prospect Road and in to Starbeck. Stop to admire Gordon Beer bike sculpture in memorial garden.
Cross road, over level crossing and up through Starbeck and left on to The Avenue. At the end of The Avenue on the LHS drop down on to the bike path along the old railway line. Ride to end.
Stop at end to look at potential extension of this route across Nidd Gorge and to Ripley. There is a display case.
