Route 36 Beckwithshaw, Stainburn, Almscliffe Crag
Distance: 32 km / 20 miles

Hilly and interesting ride, part on good gravel track.

Hornbeam, exit left to to cross A61 at t/lights, on to Leadhall road, after 0.7 mile after dip in road turn rt to Green Lane. At r/about take 2nd exit to Whinney Lane and go past Squinting Cat PH. Turn rt at T jn on to Lady lane and st on for 1 mile, turn left on B6162 and left on B6161 through Beckwithshaw village.

Just after leaving 30mph limit turn right on to road which gently climbs for 2 miles over the moor. Good views of the Menwith Hill “golf balls“. After 2 miles forest car park on left, turn left on to gravel track alongside car park, and after 0.5 miles track turns rt at T. Continue on track for 2 miles thro fields and forest. At gate turn left on t/mac rd (gate may be locked so may have to lift bikes over).

Great views over Wharfedale, 2 gates on road. Straight on thro houses/farms and eventually meet T and turn left. 0.5 miles turn left again on B6161. After 1 mile turn rt onto minor rd. 2 miles left at T, and then sweep around at the foot of Almscliff Crag (spectacular, often climbers out there on an evening). Turn left for North Rigton.

In North Rigton turn left, and left again, follow signs Beckwithshaw (short steep climb out of village). Road then drops and climbs again up to X rds. Turn right at X rds (signed to Burn Bridge?). Long downhill ride, left at T and into Burn Bridge. Past the Black Swan PH and climb for 1 mile , turn rt to Rossett Green lane and continue straight back to Hornbeam.
