Cycle routes
Route 33 Almscliffe Crag and the Wharfe Valley
Distance: 32 km / 20 miles
Hilly at the beginning and end.
From Hornbeam turn left and head west along Hookstone Road and Leadhall Lane. Continue to the T junction with Green Lane and turn left. Follow the winding Yew Tree Lane down to Burn Bridge and go past the Black Swan, over the bridge and turn right to Brackenthwaite Lane.
Follow Brackenthwaite Lane climbing all the way for about 2 miles where there is a crossroads. Turn left, drop down, and climb again to North Rigton. Turn right in North Rigton, and then 2nd right onto Crag Lane. This takes you along until you see Almscliffe Crag on the right. At the T junction turn left for Huby.
As you enter the village of Huby look out for Strait Lane on your right and turn down there. At the bottom cross straight over the A658, and continue for about 1.5miles. Turn left at the T junction and head for Dunkeswick. Go straight through Dunkeswick and on to meet the A61.
A61 CAUTION TAKE CARE - FAST TRAFFIC.
Turn left onto the A61 and then turn right off it after 300 yards, heading for Kirkby Overblow. Up to Kirkby Overblow and turn left in the village heading for Harrogate. After 1.5miles you join the A658 Southern By-Pass. Turn Right, ride along the hard shoulder for about 1 mile and take the 3rd turning left towards Rudding Park.
Ignore the signs for Rudding Park, continue on dropping down to cross a bridge with traffic lights. Then climb up to the A661 Wetherby Road. Turning left brings you up past Sainsbury's and to the Woodlands Pub. Turn left to return to the start at Hornbeam.
