Ride calendar

The following rides are planned.

Sunday rides start at Hornbeam Park railway station off Hookstone Road at 9.30am unless stated otherwise.

Wednesday morning rides start at Hornbeam Park and at Knaresborough, times as shown on the calendar.

Wednesday evening rides (May to August) start at 6.30pm prompt, also from Hornbeam. The pace is medium/fast typically averaging at least 12 mph on hilly routes. If you are not sure of your abilities you are still very welcome, but be prepared to turn back if you are struggling to keep up with the pace. Lights are essential in case of a gloomy evening or delays.

There are occasional Off Road, Super Easy and other rides. Please check this page regularly for latest details. We look forward to welcoming you to WHEEL EASY!

Bishop Thornton & Brimham Rocks. Distance 30 Miles (Hilly)
Beckwithshaw, Penny Pot Lane, Burley Bank Road, onward to Hampsthwaite, Clint Bank, Shaw Mills, Bishop Thornton. Drovers X Roads, turn L. After 1.5 miles L to Warsill and L to Brimham Rocks. At the crossroads turn L towards Harrogate, then after about a mile take the road on R to Hartwith and on to the T-junction. Turn left along the B6165 for ¼ mile then R over the toll bridge to join the road down to Birstwith. And back to Hampsthwaite.

After Brimham Rocks, Glasshouses, Yorke Folly, Padside, Thornthwaite, Darley, Birstwith, Hampsthwaite etc.

Distance: 58 km / 35 miles. Some good hills
Knox Lane, Killinghall, Hampsthwaite, Clint Bank, Shaw Mills, Bishop Thornton, follow signs to Sawley. In village trn right just past church. Minor road winds and climbs to T, turn left to Fountains Abbey. Up hill to the Visitor Centre cafe. Back down to Fountains, Markington, across A61 to Burton Leonard, Copgrove, Farnham, and Knaresborough.
Medium Ride Plus -
After Fountains continue thro deer park, Studley Royal, Ripon, Littlethorpe, Bishop Monkton, Farnham.

L to Coneythorpe, Flaxby, R and L on A59 to Goldsborough. If dry take track at south of village to St James Park roundabout, Abbey Road. If wet follow road back to Knaresborough, straight over roundabout on A59, Abbey Road. Home via Calcutt. - Mainly flat

After Aldborough keep south to Lower Dunsforth, and Upper Dunsforth, Gt Ouseburn, Thorpe Underwood, Whixley, Cattal, Cowthorpe, Little Ribston, Spofforth, Follifoot and return.

Knaresborough, Farnham, Ferrensby, Arkendale, Great Ouseburn, Aldwark Bridge, turn rt and follow signs to Beningborough Hall (NT). If anyone does not have membership card to get in to café continue thro grounds to farm shop that serve hot drinks and snacks. Return home same route.

After Hall return to cross Aldwark Bridge, then left to Thorpe Underwood, cross over B rd to Whixley. Then cross A59 with care dirn Tockwith, turn right X rds for Cowthorpe, Little Ribston, Spofforth, Follifoot, home.

Fewston Distance: 42 km / 26 miles. Hilly
Beckwithshaw, Little Alms Cliff, down hill to B6451, R and first L down to Swinsty and Fewston reservoir. Cross bridge and straight on keeping reservoir on left, thro Fewston village until crossing reservoir dam. Up hill to car park and loos. Take L fork and climb steadily for a mile through Timble. First R back down to reservoir and cross back over bridge. Take 2nd L, coffee stop at Fewston Parochial Hall, R at X roads, and head back to B6451. Pennypot Lane and home.
Medium Plus Ride - Terry
After Timble cont to X rds with B6451. Turn left, 1 mile, turn L to Snowden village. Climb to X rds, straight over and drop down to Askwith. Follifoot, Spofforth, cycle track to Wetherby – optional stop. Out of Wetherby on cycle track, and past racecourse. Left to Walton, follow road to T-Junc, & Turn Left. Cross Wetherby-York road continue to Cattal. Follow road and cross over main road to York, on to Whixley. Thro village and turn rt after cricket field, Thorpe Underwood, Great Ouseburn, cont thro village and 1 mile on to meet B rd where rt and left to go past edge of Marton cum Grafton and Over A1 to Arkendale. Ferrensby, Farnham, Knaresborough, Mainly flat

At Gt Ouseburn bear rt onto back lane to Upper and Lower Dunsforth, Aldborough, Boroughbridge, return via Roecliffe, tarmac bridleway to Copgrove, Farnham, Knaresborough

Spring Warm Up to Ampleforth and Nunnington. About 75 miles
Across the Vale of York via Boroughbridge and to Coxwold. Then minor lanes to Ampleforth and on to Nunnington. Then Hovingham, up through the Howardian Hills and down into Easingwold. Back home via Aldwark Bridge. About 75 miles. Normal start time – 9.30 at Hornbeam.

Boroughbridge Via Farnham, Staveley & Minskip. Return via Aldborough, Grafton, Arkendale, Knaresborough
Medium Plus ride -
Knaresborough, Farnham, Bishop Monkton, Ripon. Then over North Bridge, climb hill on A61, turn R to Sharow, after 3 miles R to Marton le Moor, L on Norton le Clay road (ignore A168 turning) and turn R to Boroughbridge after 1.5 miles. Cross over the river turning right at the roundabout then next right to follow the signs towards Easingwold. Pass through Milby and continue on for about 3 miles to the T-junction, turn right and cross over the river and on to Brafferton/Helperby. At this T-junction turn right and follow the road round to the left continuing along this road to Flaxwith bearing right at the triangle of roads to Aldwalk & Aldwark Bridge. Return via Great Ouseburn, Arkendale & Knaresborough

Sneck Yate (pronounced yatt) ride. About 85 miles.
The outward route will be via Boltby and the dreaded, wonderfully named Sneck Yate (also known as Boltby Bank) Returning from Helmsley via the Easingwold route. It will be about 85 miles. The route can be viewed at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2795173. but here is a bit more detail - Boroughbridge, Dalton, Thirsk (coffe stop), Felixkirk, Boltby then follow the Rye valley to Helmsley for lunch. The return route will go via Harome, Nunnington, Hovingham, Easingwold, Aldwark and home. Early start – see website for details.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN RIDE SERIES

Ripon and Jervaulx Rides. About 88 miles.
Starting from Hornbeam Park, Harrogate the ride goes to Ripon and then takes to the hills going via Galphay, Kirkby Malzeard and Masham. Then a loop north to include Jervaulx Abbey and return via Snape to Ripon and Harrogate.
A shorter ride of 62 miles can start and finish at Ripon. Early start – 8.30am from Hornbeam, or 9.45am at Ripon Leisure Centre.
