HUGE MAJORITY SAY YES! 4th Feb - Council Cabinet votes in favour

4th February 2009 - The Council Cabinet voted in favour of cycling on the Stray. There were 4 in favour, 2 abstentions and one (who had also expressed support for the proposal) was unable to attend. An excellent result for those who believe that this change is long overdue. Thank you to all who have supported in various ways, including writing letters to the local Press.

The Council is now waiting for the response from the Duchy of Lancaster, which owns the Stray, and will then need to amend the bylaw which bans cycling. Of course, while a few paths on the south and east edge of the Stray will become ‘dual use’ for pedestrians and cyclists, the large majority of the Stray is unaffected.........................

The vote follows a public consultation in December. Over 1000 responses were received with a huge majority - 79% - in favour. Detailed results below.
