News & Events


WHEEL EASY - HIGHLIGHTS 2007/8 - TO NAME BUT A FEW!

MEMBERSHIP
• Now 147 Members
• Introduction of a “0-30 in 3 months” group.
• Attracting new members: a Wheel Easy Banner, business cards and posters (thanks to Ben Cope)

RIDES
• Three grades of ride available every Sunday.
• Not one Sunday missed since Wheel Easy formed in May 2006 (thanks to all the Ride Leaders).
• Speedy Rides and Mountain Bike Rides introduced.
• EG’s ride every Wednesday morning and Poddlers often Wednesday afternoon.
• First 100 mile ride achieved (in the rain!).

CELEBRATIONS
• Our 100th member, Jean Battison, receives a voucher from Helsby Cycles.
• On the same day we achieve our 100th ride and donate £100 for bikes for midwives in Africa.
• Xmas Lunch at the Hockey Club attended by 34 (more this year?)
• Bowling evening (we found that there is no correlation between bike riding and bowling!).
• A visit to World Champion Ron Kitching’s cycling museum in Otley.
• Celebration of 130 years of CTC, which was founded in Harrogate in 1878.

IMPROVING THE CYCLING EXPERIENCE
• Helping and working with Sustrans on the planned new Coast to Coast Route - Morecambe to Bridlington via Harrogate.
• Connect2 Bid and ongoing consultation on Bilton-Ripley route.
• Spofforth Cycle Path improvement work – workday with Sustrans and Open Country.
• Membership of Council Cycling Consultation Groups.
• Membership of Harrogate Car Free Day Committee with support and hard work from Wheel Easy membership.
• Leading the campaigning for Cycling on the Stray.
