2009
BILTON TO RIPLEY RAILWAY PATH
for Cyclists, Walkers, Horse riders, and Wheelchair users
The 4km route from Bilton Lane, Harrogate, to Ripley Castle will run along the former Nidd Valley railway line over the Nidd Viaduct. This £500,000 traffic-free path is already largely funded by Sustrans recent Connect2 lottery success, but we still need around £60,000 to complete it.
We are asking for your support for this great project, which will be a wonderful asset for local residents and visitors of all ages. Cyclists, walkers, horse riders and wheelchair users will be able for the first time to go safely through the beautiful countryside between Bilton and Ripley. The route will link up with existing cycle and pedestrian connections into Harrogate Town Centre and cycle, horse and pedestrian sections into Knaresborough. It will form the central section of a new coast to coast cycle route from Morecambe to Bridlington, part of the 11,000 mile National Cycle Network. Ultimately, the aim is to extend the route from Ripley west to Pateley Bridge and north to Ripon making maximum use of the former railway lines.
Our aim is to have it finished and in use by 2010 if not before. Please will you help to make this happen? All donations go into a ring-fenced Sustrans account, so if you are a UK taxpayer and complete the Gift Aid form we can claim back 25p tax for every pound you give. Please donate by credit card online at www.sustrans.org.uk . Click on the donate Donate now box halfway down the page, complete the form and select Bilton to Ripley Route Appeal in the dropdown box below. Donations can also be made by cheque payable to Sustrans BiltonRipley Route, with your name, postcode and first line of your address on the back. Please give to a committee member or send to Judith Turner, 23 Birstwith Grange, Birstwith, Harrogate HG3 3AH. Large amounts will help achieve the total more quickly. Many small amounts show the breadth of support throughout the community.
